EATING DISORDERS & DENTAL HEALTH
For many years, Dr. Marbrito has been treating bulimic patients and
has witnessed the dental ramifications of this eating disorder. As a
result, he has been actively involved in educating healthcare
professionals and the community about eating disorders.
BULIMIA & DENTAL PROBLEMS
When a bulimic purges (vomits) after eating, the stomach acids are
absorbed into the teeth. The acid slowly eats away the enamel. Loss
of tooth structure, infestions, broken and worn teeth are a few of
the dental damages due to bulimia. Without treatment, bulimic
patients suffer enamel loss to varying degrees.
