Dental Implant Restoration
By Houston Cosmetic Dentist Dr. Craig Mabrito
Dr. Mabrito specializes in the restoring of implants to cosmetically replace
missing teeth or dentures. Tooth implants are the closest replica to your
natural teeth and
are the most permanent and secure solution for the replacement
of one or
multiple teeth.
Research has indicated that implants should last over 30 years if properly maintained. They are composed of different types of metallic materials, often titanium, and bone-like ceramic materials that are compatible with
body tissue.
| Unlike other restorative dental solutions, implants: | ||
| • | Allow a limitless diet | |
| • | Preserve your facial structure | |
| • | Help maintain jaw bone density | |
| • | Correct speech problems | |
| • | Do not compromise surrounding teeth | |
Dental implants are your solution to restoring the confidence in your smile.
Dental Implant Procedure

Proper implant placement takes a skilled team. A correctly placed implant will arch with the rest of the teeth and have a natural gum line. Dr. Mabrito will recommend a specialist to perform the surgery of inserting the implant for the placement of the tooth restoration (performed by Dr. Mabrito). The procedure is performed with local anesthesia and medication can be prescribed for soreness.
During healing a temporary tooth is placed over the newly inserted abutment to help train the gum tissue to arch around the sides of the tooth instead of going straight across.
Fitting the Tooth Restoration (Prosthesis)
Once the implant has healed, Dr. Mabrito will prepare and place the restoration. He uses a white post and porcelain margin to prevent metal from showing through the tooth and to help camouflage the implant if gum tissue begins receding. Dr. Mabrito also uses his ColorMatch Shade Analyzing Software to successfully match tooth shades and create a natural smile.

Implant Procedure Duration
The implant process can take up to 9 months with 6 months dedicated to healing and another 2 to 3 months for fitting the replacement tooth or teeth. Depending on your health history, healing may take longer for some individuals.
Types of Dental Implants
Implants can be placed directly into the jaw bone, like natural tooth roots or if there is limited jaw structure, a custom metal framework that fits directly on the existing bone is constructed.
Depending on the number of implants needed, a partial, complete denture, or single prosthesis is made. If you are missing multiple teeth, your prosthesis will require more implants for additional support. Complete dentures may be used for a full mouth reconstruction.
Ideal Candidates for Dental Implants
Individuals must have good health, the proper bone structure and healthy gums for the implant to take hold. Individuals who suffer from chronic problems such as clenching or bruxism and systemic diseases such as diabetes have a much lower success rate for implants. Heavy smoking and drinking alcohol can also cause implants to fail.
