Rejuvenation Dentistry – “The Dental Restorative Facelift”
By Houston Cosmetic Dentist Dr. Craig Mabrito
If you feel like your smile is aging you, rejuvenation dentistry may be your answer.
A dental restorative facelift can quickly reverse the natural aging process of your smile to make you look years younger with our revitalizing and restorative dental procedures.
Aging and Rejuvenation Dentistry
As most of us age, the outer layer of enamel on our teeth is worn away, eventually revealing the darker surface underneath and increasing the possibility of decay. Teeth may become discolored from smoking as well as drinking coffee, tea and wine. Teeth also tend to get shorter as they wear down from years of use and abuse, and gum tissue may recede causing that "long tooth" look. Laugh lines, wrinkles and collapsed smiles can often be improved by using dental techniques to fill out these facial areas.
Rejuvenation dentistry addresses these problems, and after completing a thorough cosmetic evaluation with
Dr. Mabrito, you’ll be educated on appropriate and beneficial solutions to rejuvenate your smile. Dr. Mabrito also works with Orthodontists and Periodontists to achieve optimum results.

Comprehensive Dental Evaluation
All patients are evaluated during the telephone interview before an official appointment is scheduled at the office to determine if Dr. Mabrito’s services match your needs.
During your initial appointment we will take digital x-rays of your mouth as well as diagnostic photos that enlarge the teeth, exposing problems such as overhangs, fractures and broken down teeth. Diagnostic models of your mouth are also created to study treatment options outside of your office visit.
Cosmetic Imaging – A Preview for Post-Rejuvenation Dentistry
Dr. Mabrito’s dental assistants can perform cosmetic imaging to give you an idea of what your smile can look like after rejuvenation dentistry. The imagery technology will create a simulated smile based on your mouth structure. This helps to determine how extensive the treatment will be and how to schedule your consultation with Dr. Mabrito.
Options for Rejuvenation Dentistry
Rejuvenation can be achieved through one or a combination of procedures including:
- Teeth Whitening
- Implant Restorations
- Porcelain Veneers
- Tooth Bonding
- Cosmetic Fillings
- Dental Bridges
- Dental Crowns
Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening can help brighten your smile from years of discoloration and staining due to food and beverages or darkening from injury. During the procedure a chemical solution is applied to the teeth and may be accompanied by a special light used at different intervals to activate the bleaching agent. Depending on the shade you want to achieve, it may take 2 or more sessions scheduled one week apart. Each office bleaching session takes about 30 minutes to an hour. More on Teeth Whitening.
Tooth Implants
If you have a missing tooth or a tooth in need of replacement, tooth implants can be an optimal solution. Implants involve surgically inserting a metal screw into the gum line for the placement of an attachable abutment to secure the new tooth. Dr. Mabrito works with a network of specialists that can provide the surgical placement of the implant. He uses his ColorMatch Shade Analyzing Software to successfully match tooth shades and create a natural smile. Once the implant is fully healed, Dr. Mabrito will place the new tooth on the implant abutment.

Porcelain Veneers
Dr. Mabrito assisted in the development of veneers and has used porcelain veneers in restorations since their initial availability. Veneers are thin custom-made shells designed to cover the front side of teeth. They offer solutions for permanent stains and for teeth that are abnormally small with side gaps, poorly shaped or slightly crooked, and chipped, worn, or eroded at the gum line from over brushing. Tooth Bonding
Dr. Mabrito provides tooth bonding for people interested in quick and temporary solutions. Bonding can improve the appearance of your smile by correcting chips, broken teeth, cracks, staining or spacing. This procedure is often used for teenagers or younger children with broken teeth who must wait until their mouths have fully matured for other procedures. More on Tooth Bonding.
Cosmetic Fillings
Dr. Mabrito can replace your old silver fillings with cosmetic or white fillings. Over time silver fillings can expand, cracking your tooth where as white fillings bond to your tooth, actually making it stronger. White fillings can also improve the appearance of unsightly silver fillings in the front of your mouth. More on Cosmetic Fillings.
Dental Bridges
Dental bridges or fixed partial dentures may be a preferential restorative technique for some patients. Bridges are used to span or bridge the space where teeth are missing, usually by connecting the false tooth or teeth to a fixed restoration on adjacent teeth. More on Dental Bridges.
Dental Crowns
Crowns are used to cap or completely cover a tooth in order to rebuild broken or decayed teeth, strengthen teeth, or improve the cosmetic appearance of a tooth. Crowns cover the entire visible portion of the tooth around the gum line. They are often used to offer extra support to a tooth with a large filling where only a small amount of the original tooth remains. Crowns are also used to hold a dental bridge in place or to cover a dental implant.

The Perfect Fit
To determine whether you will feel comfortable in your new smile, Dr. Mabrito applies a resin (temporary material) to your existing teeth to temporarily build up your smile. You wear this material for a period of time until your jaw is comfortable with the change. Your jaw may have to refigure to the correct position. If your jaw does not become accustomed to the change, adjustments will be made until a comfortable setting is achieved. Proper placement is important to avoid further problems such as TMJ. This process can be used for recession of the gum tissue, metal shelling from a previous restoration, cracks and general enamel wear down.
