Porcelain Veneers: Smile Restoration

By Houston Cosmetic Dentist Dr. Craig Mabrito

Dr. Mabrito assisted in the development of veneers, and as such has made smile restoration one of his special interests.  There are many factors that can cause the need for dental restoration. Using veneers to correct previous dental work or to restore your smile offers a more permanent solution than many other options. Dental veneers are thin, coverings made of tooth-like material that are placed over the surface of the tooth to cover unattractive teeth, improve tooth color, and repair previous dental work.

Veneers Can Correct:
  Worn tooth enamel
  Uneven tooth alignment
  Spacing issues, such as gaps
  Chips
  Cracks
  Discoloration

Advantages of Porcelain Veneers:
Helps achieve a healthy, natural smile
Removes only a small amount of natural tooth structure
Can easily match and correct individual teeth with different colors and shapes
Can be used to cover permanent stains caused by antibiotics
Laminates and strengthens the tooth with a layer of porcelain

Smile Restoration Consultation

You will first meet with Dr. Mabrito for a comprehensive dental evaluation, and to discuss if veneers are the best option for your desired results.  Once it is determined that veneers are right for you, you will schedule an appointment and begin your smile makeover.

Process for Successful Results

Having veneers placed on your teeth requires that your teeth are first shaped or prepped.  This process usually entails filing them down so that the veneer covering will fit properly.  Once your teeth are prepared, an impression is made of your teeth so that your veneers will have a precision fit.  Dr. Mabrito will apply a temporary resin to the tooth or teeth that will have veneers attached, to simulate the final results.  You wear this material for a week or two until your jaw is comfortable with the change.  Adjustments can be made during this time in order to achieve the optimal results. Your veneers will then be made according to the shape of the temporary resin.

Placement of Porcelain Veneers

When it is time to place your veneers, Dr. Mabrito takes great care in making sure there is a proper fit.  Once the fit, shape, and size are right, the veneers are bonded to your prepared teeth. Using your original smile as a guide, custom veneers will be made to match the exact results you desire.  Properly fitted veneers by Dr. Mabrito will give you long lasting, stain-resistant teeth and a lustrous smile that you will take pride in.
